FAQS
A multi-zone audio system divides a property into independently controlled audio zones - lobby, restaurant, pool terrace, conference floor, guest corridors - each with its own volume level, audio source, and schedule. A central DSP (digital signal processor) and amplifier rack processes and distributes audio to ceiling or surface-mounted speakers in each zone. Management is typically handled via a touchscreen interface or a property management system integration, allowing staff to adjust individual zones, trigger pre-set scenes, or schedule background music to start and stop automatically based on trading hours.
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivers television content over the hotel's IP network rather than through traditional coaxial cabling. A head-end server encodes and distributes broadcast channels, on-demand content, hotel information, and welcome screens to IPTV set-top boxes or smart TVs in each room. This allows the hotel to update room content, manage channel packages, and display personalised welcome messages or billing information without running new cabling. IPTV systems also integrate with property management systems (PMS) for check-in/check-out triggered content.
Commercial displays are engineered for the continuous, unattended operation required in hospitality environments. Key differences include duty cycle (commercial displays are rated for 16/7 or 24/7 operation vs. a few hours daily for consumer TVs), higher peak brightness for environments with ambient light, a system-on-chip that locks out unintended user settings changes, centralised management via LYNK or similar protocols, portrait and landscape mounting options, and longer product lifecycles with consistent replacement parts. Consumer TVs, while cheaper, void warranties in commercial use and typically fail within 12-18 months of continuous operation.
IP (Ingress Protection) ratings indicate a product's resistance to dust and water. For outdoor hospitality environments like pool terraces and gardens, speakers should carry at least IP55 (protected against water jets from any direction) with UV-resistant enclosures for direct sunlight exposure. Outdoor displays require IP65 or higher for full dust protection and water resistance, high-brightness panels (1,500-5,000 nits) to overcome sunlight washout, and operating temperature ranges suitable for the local climate. All fixings and cabling used in outdoor installations should also be rated for outdoor use to prevent corrosion.
